Ava Russo is a 13 year old ski racer, born in Las Vegas, Nevada, but moved to Red Lodge, Montana when she was just three years old. She started ski racing on the Silver Run Race Team at age seven, and has continued to be on the race team ever since!
Ski Racing means everything to Ava and she hopes to continue her racing career for as long as possible! She also loves to play volleyball during the off season, along with doing other outdoor activities, such as mountain biking and backpacking in the beautiful Beartooth mountains outside of her home in Red Lodge.
She races for the US Ski & Snowboard Northern Division. Ava competes in Slalom, Giant Slalom and Super G. She loves ski racing and being in the outdoors and has worked very hard, year round to become an accomplished racer. She has had numerous victories and podium finishes in her career.
Last year Ava qualified for the Western Region Championships in Jackson Hole, WY and was one of the youngest U14’s that qualified. She finished every race and was in the top 25 in all three events racing against the fastest 60 girls in the Western U.S.!
Ava was also invited by the U.S. Ski Team to the prestigious Project 26 (2026 Olympics), U.S. Ski Team Camp at Mt. Hood at the end of last summer! They only invited the top 8, U14 female racers in the Western U.S. for specialized slalom training. Ava was the only athlete from the Northern Division, boy or girl selected. This was a huge honor for her, her team and family.
In 2017 Ava was handpicked by U.S. Ski Team Star, Jackie Willis to attend “The Jackie Willis (U.S. Ski Team “A” Team member) ski camp” at Mt. Hood and was able to attend free of charge based on her skiing and life goals. That same year she won the prestigious “White Stagg” duel ski race in Red Lodge. One of the oldest, continuously held races in the United States and it has been going on for at least 70 years. Ava is the youngest female champion of all time and won the race at only age 12 against much older women. She would like to thank Creek to Peak for the support and recognition that they give to her, her ski team and her family.
